IBM is trying to get ahead of the competitive AI market by launching new tools to help businesses and users integrate different AI agents—yes, even those from competitors such as Adobe, Workday, and Salesforce.

"We help our clients integrate. We want to meet them where they are," Arvind Krishna, CEO, IBM, said in an interview.

He said that IBM sees an opportunity to be the bridge or connective tissue between different AI systems to streamline how clients can customize and use AI agents across business operations.

IBM offers new tools allowing clients to build AI agents in less than five minutes, drawing from its Granite AI models and other open-source models, including Mistral and Meta.

IBM’s CEO emphasized the growing need for customized AI solutions because businesses must combine different AI models for particular tasks.

Despite stiff competition from Microsoft, Amazon, and other tech giants, the company’s move builds on its reported $6 billion book of business in generative AI, which continues to expand.

Unlike other larger cloud service providers, IBM offers businesses control and flexibility over the data environment with infrastructure options and hybrid cloud solutions.

Pointing to the new artificial intelligence tools as a catalyst for expansion, he said, “All of these capabilities will only accelerate that rate of growth."

In related news, it has pledged $150 billion worth of investments in US manufacturing and innovation over the next five years to boost domestic production of mainframe and quantum computers.

“Between mainframe, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing, we think there’s going to be a very healthy market that behooves us to invest and lean in,” Krishna said.
