AI News: YouTube recently announced the expansion of its pilot program. Its mission? Identify and manage AI-generated content featuring the “likeliness” of artists, creators, celebrities, and other known figures.

YouTube also declared its support for the “NO FAKES Act”. The proposed legislation aims to fight harmful and misleading AI-generated content featuring replicas of a person’s image or voice.

It announced its collaboration with Senators Chris Coons and Marsha Blackburn, the principal bill sponsors, together with several organizations, including the Motion Picture Association (MPA) and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

The company emphasized its proactive approach to AI challenges, including the risk of harmful content and misuse, while acknowledging artificial intelligence’s potential for creative innovation, in a blog post

YouTube highlighted that the No Fakes Act offers a balanced solution. It empowers users and anyone to report unauthorized “likelinesses” for potential removal.

According to YouTube, the new notification process is crucial for distinguishing between harmful content or fakes and legitimate content.

This expansion is built upon YT’s current  Content ID system and the “likeliness” detection technology, which was launched in December 2024 in collaboration with the Creative Artists Agency (CAA).

The latest technology’s mission is to detect AI-generated simulations of voices/faces in uploaded videos automatically.

The company revealed its initial testers, who included Mark Rober, MrBeast, and Flow Podcast.

Its testing phase focuses on scaling the technology and refining its controls.

YouTube has not announced a public launch date for its likeliness detection system. However, it has already updated its privacy policies, allowing users to report and request the removal of synthetic/altered content depicting their likeliness. It has also introduced tools to manage AI depictions.

That’s AI news for today. Stay tuned for the latest developments.
